Four trade show design trends that shaped 2023
As we say goodbye to summer, it’s only natural that we start to think about the trends that will get us excited in 2024. But, before we look forward, it’s worth taking some time to look at what’s been all the rage in tradeshow exhibition stand design this year.
1. Texture
When it comes to booth design, we’ve seen texture used to add impact and boost appeal. Wood, rope, soft furnishings, plants and grass have all been incorporated to accentuate exhibition stand designs in ways that don’t detract from the displays themselves. And, when it comes to texture, the visual is just as important as the tactile, with lighting used to express a variety of messages and emotions.
2. Engagement
There is no point getting people to your exhibition stand if they don’t talk to you once there. So, no matter how good your booth looks, all your effort could go to waste if it’s not a catalyst for conversations.
In 2023, we’ve seen games, videos, food and drink, and seating areas all used to give people a reason to strike up conversations. But, while such techniques are nothing new – and they have long been deployed to get a queue forming – they won’t result in exhibition success if that’s all they remember about you after the show is over. And, in 2023, relevancy was key, so if you’re using such tactics, you must make sure that they support your wider exhibition objectives.

3. Technology
When it comes to creating a winning show presence, integrating technology into exhibition stand design is helping to provide that much-needed return on investment. And, in 2023, we’ve seen a plethora of technology being used to help increase the number of leads generated at exhibitions.
Video, iPads and other – now established tech – are being integrated into stands of all shapes and sizes, alongside virtual reality headsets, touch screen data capture, augmented reality, holographs, and many other intelligent features and gadgets.

4. Sustainability
Before the financial crisis, sustainability was a hot topic in the world of exhibition stands. But, as the recession hit, some businesses declared environmental concerns deprioritised, as slashed budgets left them in no position to absorb the costs of going green.
Fast forward to today, and with the UK’s economic growth steady but slow, green design is back as event organisers look to mix creativity and sustainability into their exhibition stands. In response, we’ve seen an increase in requests for our Custom Modular aluminium profile system. 100% recyclable – even after many years of use – this solution has all the benefits of a custom design, with the added flexibility and value of a modular exhibition stand. So, it’s versatile and flexible enough to be built in different sizes for different show spaces, has a long lifespan, and requires minimal maintenance.
